Cambridge Classics are a local family firm that make handmade wooden bespoke architecturally sympathetic windows and doors. They asked me to paint my take on a Cambridge streetscene to be used as their company logo across their company. It was to be used on their fleet of vans, their tradespeople’s workwear, and on all their company stationery and virtual presence. I worked with Camilla to work with her initial idea, and to see how I could work to that brief, but add a little spark of my own.
The streetscene I came up with features only properties that have been customers of the company. I wanted typical Cambridge houses – there is a house with a blue plaque, my favourite Dutch roof houses on Coleridge Road, and houses typical of the terraces you get off Mill Road. I also included a cargo bike, some side passages with a bicycle, Addenbrooke’s chimney and King’s College in the distance (artistic licence!). There are also some window fitters from Cambridge Classics, and some wall art from Heron Heron – Cambridge’s answer to Banksy.
‘We commissioned Naomi for our branding as we have admired her work for some time. We met with Naomi and she took on board everything we required and also made a few brilliant suggestions.
It was very important for us to capture the essence of Cambridge and as Naomi is local she was a perfect choice. Naomi provided everything we asked for and we were delighted to be presented with our final version – it was quite an emotional experience ! Our vans look amazing with the bright pops of colour and lovely attention to detail’ Camilla Carter
